Raymond Schmieder, 81 passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 surrounded by his family in Glendale, Arizona. He was born on July 9, 1931 to Paul and Irma (Kopsz) Schmieder in Chicago, Illinois. On October 1, 1955 he married Patricia Wiesen in Chicago, Illinois. Raymond, a self taught carpenter, enjoyed spending time with his family, doing wood working projects, and relaxing at the cabin that he built in Prescott, Arizona. Some of Ray's many passions were making needed equipment for special needs students in the Deer Valley School District, assisting students and teachers in the classroom, and volunteering for Special Olympics. Raymond served in the Navy during the Korean War. Following the Navy, he worked for 33 years at Mountain Bell Phone Company. Upon retirement, he began working as a special needs bus driver for the Deer Valley School District, where he worked for over 15 years. Survivors include his wife Patricia; his four daughters, Laura (Larry) Castillo, Paula (Alan) Faulkner, Carla (Gary) Harper, Marla (Alain) Couture; and 7 grandchildren Brandon, Meghan, Melissa, Brett, Amanda, Blaine, and Austin; 3 great-grandchildren Cody, Jackson, Cayden Rae; and 1 brother Joseph Schmieder; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial service and a time of gathering will be held on Saturday, February 16, at 2:00PM at the Phoenix Memorial Park in Phoenix, Arizona. Donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley and Special Olympics.
