Ramon Flores Escalante, II, 92, of Tempe, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded and comforted by his family on March 3, 2017. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona to Ramon Galas Escalante and Anita Flores Escalante on March 4, 1924. He attended Tempe Union High School graduating in 1943. Immediately after graduation Ramon entered the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country during WWII where he was awarded many service medals including 2 Philippine Liberation Stars, 6 Asiatic Pacific Stars, and the Victory Medal of World War II.
Ramon married his love Josephine Trias Acedo on July 3, 1948 and they settled in Phoenix to raise their family. He worked as a Barber and then as a Custodial Engineer for the Tempe Union School District until his retirement after being awarded for twenty years of service at Gilliland Junior High School from 1966-1986.
Ramon was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Josephine Escalante in 1998. He is survived by his children Barbara Rose Escalante, Mary Helen Escalante, David Hector Escalante, and Joseph Jeremiah Escalante; grandchildren Melissa Gordoa, Kenneth Castaneda, Anita Antillion, Michael Hernandez, Iris Tula Schultz, Ramon (Buddy)Escalante, Denise Escalante, Jesus Escalante, Abraham Escalante, Annette Escalante, Julian Escalante, and Eric Escalante, 19 great grandchildren and brothers Joe Escalante and Ruben Moreno.
Visitation will be held Wednesday March 15, 2017 from 4:00-8:00pm, with Celebration of Life at 6:00pm followed by Rosary at 7:00pm, at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, 4310 E. Southern Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85042. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 2121 S. Rural Rd, Tempe, AZ 85282 at 9:30am, followed by Burial with full Navy Honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85024.
