Always running, always going places - as a boy, around the neighborhood, playing little league, running home to make his teenage curfew... as a man, running a division of a major company. That was Michael Amato. Born in Philadelphia in1948 to Mary and Michael, he attended Frankford H.S. where he met his bride-to-be, Kathy Lewis. They married in 1968, and Michael, who started in the mailroom, successfully rose to become national sales manager at 3M. This job took Michael and Kathy to residences in NJ, North Carolina, and finally to Minnesota. A lifelong pilot, Mike took this passion and flew corporate jets after early retirement. Easing into full retirement, he added barista to his experiences at a local Caribou coffee shop. His lifelong passion was golf, so to get in more rounds and to avoid the MN winters, he and Kathy became Snowbirds of Arizona. Together, they experienced new frontiers traveling the globe. Family, however, was his first priority and every Christmas Michael and Kathy were drawn back to Philly to celebrate holidays with friends and family. To say that Michael enjoyed life is an understatement.
Michael passed away peacefully on Easter, April 9, 2023 in Arizona. He will be missed by multitudes of friends, but mostly by his wife of 54 years Kathy, his sister Tina, brother David, nephew and Godson Matthew, niece Amy, nephew Andrew, and all the other beloved family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
