Mary Alisa Mangum’s story began on May 27, 1975 in Statesboro, Georgia. She graduated from Denby High School in Detroit, Michigan. She spent her entire life nurturing others and it was reflected in both her personal and professional life. Mary spent numerous years doing charity work for victims of homelessness and domestic violence. She was also a caregiver and touched many souls. She was a steward of the Lord’s word and spread his message from coast to coast. But above all, what mattered to Mary most was her family.
On the evening of May 7, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona our beloved Mary Mangum was called home. Those that knew Mary know that she was a lover, protector, and fighter. These qualities held true from her sunrise to her sunset. From a single conversation with her, anyone could tell that Mary was a rare gem. God seasoned her with rareness to her benefit and demise. In the later years of her life, Maryfought against the rare combination of Lupus and Dermatomyositis autoimmune diseases. Although these diseases ultimately got the better of her body, they never got the better of her mind and spirit.
Mary was a mother, fiancé, wife, aunt, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, dog grandma and friend. She proudly leaves behind her daughters Alexandria (Omar) Mangum and Serenity Futch to cherish her memory. Her brother Michael (Deray) Mangum and sister Bernette (Bryant) Brewton-Hodges. She was a fiancé to Aubrey Harris. While formerly married to Fredrick Futch, she became a mother to TerricaGoldwire, Aaron Futch, Tiera Futch, and Tanesha Futch. She was a granddaughter to Irene Smith. She had numerous aunts and uncles including Sarah (Ricky) Fabin, Linda (Greg) Colter, Johnny Carter, Bobby Carter, Cindy (Robbie) Douglas, Alfred (Linda) Carter, and Anthony Mangum. She was an aunt to Kenneth Mangum, III., Kristopher Mangum, KeSean Mangum, Promise Mangum, Miracle Mangum, Michael Mangum, Jr., and Agapé Mangum.
She is preceded in death by her mother Alice Marie Mangum, father Kenneth Leon Mangum, brother Kenneth Mangum, Jr., grandmother Veronica (David) Mangum, uncle Vernon L. Mangum. Mary lived a full 48 years of life on Earth but her journey in Heaven has just begun. She has gained her new set of wings and rests in God’s favor.
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us - Ephesians 3:20
