LARRY R. POE, 72, of Phoenix, AZ left this world May 18, 2017. Born February 27, 1945 in Fredericktown, MO to June E. Poe (Jay) and Mary Lorene Fulton Poe (Rene), Larry was the oldest of 3 sons. He lived in St. Charles, MO and spent summers with his grandparents in Cape Girardeau, MO. Larry’s family moved to Phoenix, AZ when he was 16. Larry graduated from Carl Hayden H.S. Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corp at 18. He served two tours in Vietnam. At age 20, he wed his first wife, Carole Ray Poe. Larry was hired by Mountain Bell (later U.S. West, then QWEST) as a janitor. Larry was promoted to a frame man, residential service, business service, management, then voluntarily back to 911 installation and repair for 14 states. While working in 911, he met and married his last wife of 25 years, Karen Bretsch Murdock Poe. Larry loved spending time with his family & friends. He also enjoyed horseback riding, bowling, Toastmasters, softball, hunting, fishing, camping, stock car racing with his son, Ron, the AZ Cardinals and NFL football, one-armed bandits, Blackjack, Bingo, and going to coffee shops and telling stories.
Larry was a loving and generous husband, son, father, brother, uncle & friend.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Jay & Rene Poe. He is survived by Karen Poe, his wife; two sons, Edward M. and Ronald W. Poe; three granddaughters, Shelby, Sierra, and Georgia; two brothers, Charles W. (Michelle) Poe and Timothy (Brandy) Poe; 2 nieces & 2 nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cedars, 1702 E. Northern on June 11, 2017 from 2PM - 6PM. Burial will be at National Memorial Cemetery of AZ on a later date.
