Larry Lee Howell, 82, passed away Friday afternoon, September 9, 2022 in the presence of loved ones. He was born June 21, 1940 in Des Moines, IA. He attended and graduated from West High School in 1958, in Waterloo, IA.
Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1958. He served as an Inventory Management Specialist and stationed in Chateauroux, France. While in the Air Force, he played basketball on the European Basketball Team. He was given the nickname, “Hooker Howell.” Larry was also a recipient of several awards, including, “Good Conduct Medals.” He was “Honorably” discharged from the Air Force in 1968 at the rank of Sergeant.
After the Air Force, Larry went on to work at Trans World Airlines (TWA) in Kansas City, MO. He was a Lead Supervisor for Customer Service and received numerous awards. He worked for TWA for approximately 17 years.
Larry then went on to obtain his commercial driver’s license and was employed by J B Hunt as an over the road semi-truck driver. Again, he received several awards and recognition as an exemplary employee.
Larry’s last job was a shuttle driver for the Kansas City International Airport in Kansas City, MO.
Larry loved his family, friends and being around people. He was a Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle. He also loved his Corvettes, Jeeps, and his Harley Davidson V-Rod Motorcycle. Larry was a very dedicated Kansas City Chiefs football fan, Iowa Hawkeyes college football fan and a Kansas City Royals baseball fan.
Larry is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Elaine Howell, 34 years of marriage and his parents, LaVere and Darlene Howell.
Larry is survived and lovingly missed by his daughter, Isabelle (Mickey); 1 Grandson preceded (Jason), 1 Granddaughter, Stephanie and 3 Great Grandchildren, Zachary, Alexis and Jeremiah, Larry’s sister, Christine (Mike) Poland, and her 3 children, Darlene (Michael) McGarey and children, Riley and Deklan, Kevin (Kristin) Rose; 2 Great Nieces and 1 Great Nephew, Kimberly (Zach) Coomber; 1 Great Niece and 1 Great Nephew, Larry’s Son-in-Law, Greg (Debbie) Saragusa; 4 grandchildren, Lindsey (Tyler) Klein, Jon (Kelsey) Saragusa, Matt (Cayla) Saragusa, Dani Saragusa; 9 great grandchildren Gracie, Annie, Will, Ellis, Max, Cohen, Leo, Levi and Benjamin.
Larry will be deeply missed especially is sense of humor and laughter.
A small Celebration of Life service will be held at the American Legion (176 N. Frontier Street, Wickenburg, AZ 85390) receiving a military recognition. Inurnment to follow in Wickenburg, AZ, in which Larry’s ashes will be released on top of a mountain he had chosen.
