Judith F. Martin (Judy or Jude), aged 77, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on January 18, 2021 at Gilbert Mercy Hospital after a 6 month battle with Lymphoma. She was born to the late Glen Haney Sr. and Gertrude (Foltz) Haney in Canton, Ohio in 1943, the 7th of 9 children. She endured some hardships during her childhood that left a lasting impact on her life and gave her strong survival skills. She is preceded in death by 7 siblings, Helen, Jim, Bobbie, Glen, Shirley, Fred and Patti and is survived by one sister, Mary Popa of Wickliffe, Ohio who she loved very much.
In 1960, she married Paul Martin Sr. and raised four children in Euclid, Ohio and Middleburg Hts., Ohio. She was divorced in 1999 after 39 years of marriage and is survived by her four children, Kathleen Reidhead (John) of Payson, Arizona; Laura Martin of La Costa, California; Paul Martin Jr. (Nancy) of Strongsville, Ohio and Marie Wolf of Phoenix, Arizona, as well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family more than anything. She was a kind yet strict parent, and always followed the rules and raised her children to as well. She was a very social person and enjoyed being with family, neighbors and friends. She was brutally honest and wasn’t afraid to tell you what she thought about any subject. She always had others’ best interest in mind and liked to give sensible advice. She was always encouraging. As one daughter described, “When I first got my driver’s license… I was scared to death to drive. We were driving down a hill with a steep decline and intersection at the bottom and I was so afraid to go through the intersection – she said, just go…you got this… well, the car lifted off the ground and slammed down like Starsky and Hutch because I was going too fast. I thought, I’m never going to drive again… and she said… you did fine.”
She worked a variety of jobs over her lifetime, most recently as a Sales Rep for AAA Auto Insurance in Parma, Ohio before retiring and moving to Arizona in 2006.
She had a good work ethic, always lending a hand wherever one was needed. She blossomed when she moved to Phoenix. She seemed to find her ideal spot in the Community and made many good friends at a Nooner’s Meeting she attended regularly at Mountain View Church in Ahwatukee.
She had a strong Catholic faith and looked forward to meeting Jesus in the next life. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Ahwatukee. She prayed often, went to church regularly and lit candles for anyone in need. Her love for others was true. She was honest, caring and kind to the core and will be sorely missed by a host of family and friends.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Resthaven Mortuary & Memorial Gardens at 4310 E. Southern Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85042 from 12:00–4:00 pm with appetizers being served. She liked to feed everyone, so she insisted that we share food with you as we celebrate her life. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 3550 E. Knox Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85044 with a funeral procession immediately afterwards to her entombment at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Phoenix.
