Joe was 88 years old when he passed on Saturday, March 25th after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his beloved wife of 66 years, Anne and his five children. Joe was born in East Providence, R.I. and from the age of seven worked for his father (J. M. Oliver and Sons Construction). He was a lifelong member of Carpenter’s Local #94 until entering naval service in 1952. He was a Machinist Mate on the U.S.S. Johnston. He served two years active and four years of reserve in the Navy. Thirty-three years ago, after moving to Phoenix, he worked and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Phoenix at Sky Harbor International Airport. He was a member of the Sky Harbor Hot Air Balloon team and after retirement enjoyed his stint as a movie extra. Recently he was a member of the Resident Council of the Paradise Valley Senior Living Center. He is survived by a brother Jack Oliver and a twin sister Eva Leaf of East Providence, his wife Anne, four sons, Joseph, Michael (Karen), Raymond (Christine), Paul (Jaimee) of Phoenix and a daughter Anne Marie Mahrenholz (Bill) of California. Joe had 10 grandchildren, six great grand children and one great, great grandchild. A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00PM, Wednesday, March 29th at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Rd. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, March 30th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11001 N. 40th St. Following the mass, interment will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N.
