John Wesley Lyon, 86 of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2010. John was born in Pasadena, California on December 17, 1923, to the late Harley Lyon and Elsie Parrat Lyon. In 1943, John enlisted in the Army-Air Force and served in England with the RAF in the bomb disposal unit and as a bombardier. John was a part of the Normandy invasion forces, serving throughout Europe until 1945. He worked as an engineer at Pacific Telephone/Pac Bell for over 30 years, retiring in 1981. He married Patricia Hill on July 19, 1959, He is survived by his wife Patricia of 51 years, son Michael Lyon, daughters Ann Lyon Lofland (Donald), Susan Lyon Clairday (John) and Catherine Lyon Bowman (Robert). Grandchildren include Beth, Robert, John and Maria Bowman, as well as Julia and Benjamin Clairday. Visitation will be held at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday, August 5, 2010 , 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Military Honors with graveside service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 6, 2010.
