Joe was born on November 16, 1938 in Phoenix (Alhambra), Arizona to Jose and Daria Carbajal. Joe served in the Army and Air National Guard. Joe worked 36 years for the state of Arizona. After he retired, he started working as a crossing guard for the Creighton School District at Papago Elementary School for 13 years. He took great pride in helping the children. He loved his time with them, making them laugh and smile. The kids nicknamed him “Uncle Joe”. In 2016, Joe retired from crossing guard duty. Throughout Joe’s life, he enjoyed many activities. One of his favorite things to do was travel the country by train with his wife and taking a lucky grandkid or two with them. He loved to run 10k’s and weight lifting. He also had a passion for painting. He painted many business windows at Christmas time, which was his favorite time of year to bring new friends and family together at the annual Carbajal family Christmas party. Joe’s quick wit and keen sense of humor always lit up any room. His love for his family was unmatched. He was the first to handout popsicles or ice cream and loved to surprise his grandkids with “paydays”. He loved to listen to music, go to air shows and a good cookie. He is loved and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Hope Brown Carbajal, daughters Debbie Carbajal Lopez (Benny), Eva Carbajal Bingham (Don), his grandchildren Malia Sotelo (Efrain), Tatiana Bradshaw (Chris), Madison Hernandez (Antonio), Benjamin Lopez (Kiki), Adam Lopez (Jennifer) and 16 great grandchildren. Also left to mourn are his sisters, Daria (Chacha) Herrera (Manuel), Socorro (Coco) Garcia, Dora Camarillo, his brother John Carbajal (Irene), and many nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his sons Joey and Mario Carbajal, his parents and brothers Matias Duron and Antonio Carbajal.
