James Clement Barnett, Jr., was born on December 21, 1946 in San Francisco, California to the late James C. and Shirley Barnett. He graduated from Oakland Tech High School in 1964 and attended Merritt College in Oakland where he studied accounting. Shortly thereafter, in 1966, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he served as a Marksman in the rifle company.
Upon returning home from the war, he fell in love and married Sheyla Marie McClindon. To this union, two children were born - Almarice Dannae Barnett and Ephraim Sherome Barnett.
James enjoyed many laboring type positions throughout his working professions. More than most, he admired the training and knowledge he acquired working at Pacific Gas and Electric.
James Clement Barnett, Jr., also known as "Pop-Pop" believed in living life in his own way, while still loving people and having a good time. By his family, he was known for making the best of the best potato salad, and also considered himself a Domino Master with a badge, always willing to talk mess and whooping the butt of anyone who had "the nerve" to play him. And when he wasn't slamming bones calling Dominos, he was cheering on his favorite teams -- the San Francisco 49ers and the Golden State Warriors.
James Clement Barnett, Jr., or to us Pop-Pop, was unselfish and truly did live a full and happy life.
He leaves behind his two children; his baby girl, Almarice Dannae Barnett-Beatty and her spouse (Warren), Arizona, and his son, Ephraim Sherone Barnett and his spouse (Kim), Arizona; six grandchildren: Joshlyn Gipson and her spouse (Michael), Arizona, Ephraim Barnett Jr., Stockton, California, Terron Barnett-Chambers, Arizona, Elijah Barnett, Rohnert Park, California, Jasmine and Jordan Barnett, Arizona, former wife, Sheyla Barnett, Arizona; great aunt Pearl Rodgers, San Francisco, California; brother, Jerome Barnett and his spouse (Dora), Maryland; nieces: Melissa Barnett, Alexandria, Virginia and Hillary White and her spouse (Ron), Miamisburg, Ohio; god sons: Damian and his spouse (Jackie), Brentwood, California, Darryl Smith and his spouse (Kenyatta), Vacaville, California, Lamar A. Thomas, Glendale, Arizona, great grandchildren: Ava, Amia, Michael Jr. and Josiah Gipson.

"Going Up Yonder"
The family of James Clement Barnett, Jr., is grateful beyond measure for the generous outpouring of tangible expressions and sympathetic concerns that have been extended to us. We believe that "grief is lessened when it is shared" and your sharing this desolate period with us has made the pain easier to bear. Each act and deed brought us consolation. May God find favor in your Christian Endeavors and may He richly BLESS EACH OF YOU.
