passed away peacefully April 5th, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and cancer. Jim was born in Spencer, Ohio on May 9, 1934 to Henry and Charlotte Schmelzer. The family moved to Phoenix in 1945 where Jim attended Phoenix Union High School and Arizona State University. After serving 2 years in the Army, Jim began his career as a salesman in the structural steel and concrete business. Jim loved to play golf and stream fish, he was an avid fan of ASU Sun Devil football and Diamondbacks baseball. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Edie, son Michael and wife Judy, daughter Julie Muenich and husband Jim, grandson Aaron Schmelzer, sisters Joan Krum, Sandra Jones, Judy White and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at East Resthaven Cemetery in Phoenix on Friday, April 9th, at 10:30 AM. Donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley or St. Joseph's Hospital, Barrows Neurological Institute.
