George Paul Christie was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 16, 1930 and died May 18, 2014. He was raised in Cleveland, Ohio until he was 16 and he moved with his family to Phoenix in 1946. George was a devoted husband and family man. He was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Phoenix, Arizona and instrumental in helping start St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Peoria, Arizona. George was passionate about his Cretan heritage, so he started the Cretan club of Arizona and was President of the club for twenty years. He also was a member of the Glendale Lions Club for about ten years. He played baseball and football for Phoenix Union High School and Arizona State University. In 1955, George was drafted into the Army for two years in Korea and Japan, after finishing his service he was honorably discharged. He continued to serve for years in the navy reserve. George graduated in 1959 from Arizona State of Flagstaff with a Bachelors degree in Business and Finance. George began his career with Shasta pools and worked for them as a Finance manager and running the business office at night for over fifteen years. Later, George worked at the Arizona state Capital as an accountant for the Veterans service administration for over 10 years. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Christie, son Paul Christie, daughter Maria (Craig) Brennan, Grandson, Jason Smith and Great-grandchildren Maddelynn and Dylan. Brother, James (Donna) Christie, nephew James Jr. and niece Kelli (Harry) Smith. Visitation will be Monday May 26, 2014 from 6PM-8PM for public viewing and Trisagion at 6:30PM at A.L Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary 710 West Bethany Home Road Phoenix, AZ. 85013.
