John age 84, born October 4, 1936 in Drumright, Oklahoma died on December 20, 2020 from Covid-19.
Eva, age 84, born September 7, 1936 in Albuquerque, New Mexico died December 17, 2020 from long term medical conditions.
John and Eva both lived in their home of 52 years in Phoenix AZ.
John and Eva met at Phoenix College and were married in Phoenix in March of 1956. They are the rare couple who had a successful 64 year marriage.
They moved to Davenport, Iowa for John to become a Doctor of Chiropractics which they self funded and he completed in May 1960. Eva was an administrative assistant. After he finished college, they moved to northern California where he passed the California Board test and they opened the Chiropractic Practice.
After 5 years, they moved their family back to Phoenix, AZ. By then they had their 4 children. John worked as an inventor and scientist and Eva worked as an administrator in management.
John worked longest with Rodgers Corporation from which he retired. Eva wanted to work longer, however medical conditions had gotten to the point that she was disabled from the mid 1980’s. Eva and John did many hours of volunteer work and labor of love for organizations over the years. Eva was on the Board of Directors for the Lupus Foundation in Phoenix AZ., Mohammad Ali Parkinson’s groups they were both very involved in together and The Tremble Clefts singing group were all places they made friends and helped others. John also stopped drinking alcohol in 1975, was in AA and was also a sponsor for others who needed help with becoming sober. They both were exceptional people who were great role models. They made each day a good day and enjoyed their life.
For years John was an outdoorsman and remained curious about how things work. He took the family on many road trips and camping trips over the years. Fortunately, John and Eva were able to travel in their small RV and drove thousands of miles seeing the U.S. and visiting family and friends and simply enjoying their days together. Eva, after years of working and sewing for her family, she enjoyed making quilts as a member and teacher at the Busy Bees. Eva’s work was award winning hand stitching with exceptional color and pattern combinations.
John and Eva are survived by their 4 children, Marilyn, Deanna, Roxanne and Dwight, grandsons John Palmer and Nathan Martin, Great grandsons Peter and Wyatt Palmer, Great grand Daughter Olivia Brown and John’s Sister Rebecca Gehrett; as well as many Nieces and Nephews from both the Martin and the Kittell families.
The memorial service will be held January 30, 2021 at 1:00pm on line viewing, in person by appointment.
