Elva Rojas Gonzalez passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones on April 29, 2021 after years of battling vascular degeneration and kidney failure. Elva was born in Santa Barbara in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. Her family immigrated to Arizona in 1957. Elva graduated from Phoenix Union High School, and a few years later, she married the love of her life Raymond Antonio Mendivil. They had three daughters together. Elva retired from the State after working more than 30 years for the Arizona Corporation Commission. She enjoyed retirement by traveling, spending time with her children, grandchildren, relatives, going to the movies and watching her novelas. She loved butterflies, leopard print, Cinderella, Daisy Duck, Gone with the Wind, but most especially Elvis Presley. She was finally able to fulfill her dream of visiting Graceland in 2010.
She was preceded in death by her parents Victar (Rojas) and Francisco Gonzalez, her husband Raymond Mendivil, her favorite aunt Consuelo (Rojas) Lechuga, and her best friend Virginia Rodriguez. She is survived by her daughters: Michelle Barry (Jeff), Melissa Rasbach (Steve), and Melodie Mendivil (Todd Pomaville), her beloved grandchildren: Storm Martel, Blade Rory, Disney Magic, Mark Ramond, Joshua Tyler, Liberty Star, Rainbow Skye, Dylan Steven, Violet Isabella, Sage Spring and Scarlett Antoinette [she loved her grandkids more than anything in the world], brothers Hector and Raul Gonzalez, and sister Elsa Benavides.
A Catholic funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 10am at St. Mary’s Basilica, 231 N 3rd Street in Phoenix. The mass will immediately be followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery 2300 W Van Buren Street in Phoenix.
