Dorothy J. Francis

Dorothy J. Francis, 88, formerly of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona. Born December 27, 1923 in Harvard, Ill, the daughter of Herbert and Clara (John) Jacobs. Dorothy was a graduate of Harvard High School. She married William R. Francis June 22, 1956, in Dubuque, Iowa, he predeceased her September 3, 1984. Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church from 1941-1980, she then relocated to Phoenix and became a member of LaCasa De Cristo Lutheran Church. Dorothy worked for the Seventh Street Sweet Shop, enjoyed bowling at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford and later at Shea Fairlanes in Phoenix. She was an active member of North Phoenix Singles Club and had many friends there. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, caring for the elderly, and baking pies. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Francis Anderson of Phoenix, son, William Rice, Jr., grandsons, Travis Anderson, Bryce Anderson and Ken Rice, great grandson Cody Rice; sister, Phyllis Haile of Prescott Valley, Arzona and brother, Clarence Jacobs of Harvard, Il. Predeceased by her parents; grandson Thomas Rice, sisters, Lucille Bonavia, Betty Straley, brothers, Lester Jacobs, Lyle Jacobs, and Herb Jacobs and former husband William Rice. Funeral services were held in Rockford, Illinois and burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
