David Pence League

1/11/38 – 3/30/22

On March 30, 2022, David Pence League, loving husband and devoted dad peacefully entered into eternity at age 84.

David was born on Tuesday, January 11, 1938, to A. Byron and Ella Winfred League in Berkley, California. He graduated from Escalon High School in 1955 and entered the United States Air Force at age 17. While in the service he met and married the love of his life, Carol Sue Schafer in 1958 in Albuquerque, New Mexico while stationed at Kirkland Air Force Base. Following his service, he was an independent contractor before moving his young family to Phoenix, Arizona in 1969.

As a draftsman and estimator, David worked for Apple Masonry and Tanner Companies from 1969-1981, where he created prefab concrete panels that can be seen all over downtown Phoenix at the Adams Hotel, Sky Harbor International Airport, and the famous fountain located in Fountain Hills. During these years, David studied for the ministry during his lunch hour as he prepared to follow the call of God on his life.

On February 7, 1981, at the age of 38, David and Carol pioneered Bel-Air Assembly of God church where he served as senior pastor for 37 years. While pastoring, David served the Arizona Ministry Network as a sectional presbyter for many years as well as served on various other committees. In 2015, David and Carol retired from full-time ministry. David was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for 39 years.

David was a loving husband to Carol for 63 ½ years and dad to 3 children, son Todd, his wife Susan, son Darin and his wife Kandi and daughter, Cheryl and her husband David. He had seven married grandchildren, Devin & Cynthia, T.J & Michaela, Sterling & Kaylyn, Colette & Cody, Kailey & Michael, Bridgette & Andrew and Carissa & Trent. The crowning joy of his life are his 14 great-grandchildren: Jaxon, CeCe, Harper, Hudson, Grady, Cooper, Brexon, Saidee, Ryder, Brightley, Kenzi, Archer, Daxton and Baby boy Ferris coming soon in 2022.

In lieu of flowers, the family would most appreciate donations be sent to Family Life Assembly of God, 5402 W. Union Hills Dr., Glendale, AZ 85308. A family graveside service will be a private gathering.
