Carl David Lang, 90, passed away Feb. 24, 2017 of natural causes. Carl was born February 3, 1927 in River Rouge, Michigan to Robert and Susan Lang. He was the ninth child born of eleven children. They were a very close knit family. He went to River Rouge High School and won many boxing matches until graduation. He then joined the United States Navy and was stationed on the USS McCaffery, a destroyer in WWII. Carl was coxswain, 3rd class chief petty officer, and cut hair in the Navy. He was discharged July 26, 1946. He drove his parents from Michigan to Arizona which would be his home until his death. He worked at Reynolds Aluminum Company. It was while he was there he met and married the only love of his life, Mary Ann Foulke on March 22, 1951. Carl had the pleasure of working at Air Research Garrett Engine Turbine for 32 years. He took a few years off to manage JB’s Machine Shop, he then returned to Garrett (Honeywell) to finish his career. He attended Phoenix College at night to study drafting and engineering classes. He retired from Honeywell on August 31, 1988. After retirement, he stared his own welding business, CarMaran where he made wrought iron fences and window guards. Carl and Mary Ann did everything together. Mary Ann was a Girl Scout leader for Carol from 2nd grade until she graduated from high school. Of course, Carl, David and Jay were honorary scouts and went and did everything with the troop. Carl worked hard to provide for his family and Mary Ann stayed home and raised their 3 children with great efficiency. After the children had graduated from high school, Mary Ann started working at Phoenix College in the Registration Office. Carl was Past Master of the Phoenician and Montezuma Masonic Lodges. Carl was also a volunteer for the Sheriff’s Posse, which was a job he held very seriously. Carl and Mary Ann were heavily involved in many aspects of the Shrine. He was a member of the Director’s Staff, a Chaplain, a Director’s Aide, and Chairman of the WSA. They also volunteered as hospital staff for the Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital Clinic, which was held at St. Joseph’s Hospital for many years. They were also very active in their church, Shadow Rock Congregational Church, serving “coffee chat” once a month in between services. Social events were their thing. They loved Monday night Bingo with friends in their Ventana Lakes Community and had many get to-gethers with the neighbors and friends. Their daily routine was one of their favorite in which Carl would run up to Bashas’ and get them a caramel frappuccino around 10:30 every day. Carl had one as often as possible and even had some of one the day he passed. Carl loved his wife, the Lord and his family and friends. Carl is preceded in death by his oldest son, Gary David; his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann; his granddaughter, Perri Jaye Lang and all of Carl’s brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children, Carol Thompson, Dave Lang (Denise), and Jay Lang (Kelly). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeff Thompson (Mehgan), Ashley and Greg Thompson, Cory Tabor (Mike), Chelsea Lang, Aaron (Jasmine), Jason (Chantel), Manning, Peter Lang, and Jamie Yohe. He had 9 great grand-children: Tyan, Sage and Kali Jankowski; Cherish Tabor; Brayden, Kylee, Lily, and Jaxson Manning; and Madelyn Thompson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Viewing will be Thursday, March 2, 2017, 5-7 pm, in Serenity Chapel at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary and Cemetery. Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 3, 2017 at 10 am, also in Serenity Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carl’s honor to Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital.
