Barbara (Bobbi) Mitchell went to be with the Lord on January 5, 2024, at the age of 87. Bobbi was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1936. She attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and St. Brendan Diocesan High School, where she excelled in her studies and was always top of her class. Married in 1959 to John Mitchell (divorced), they moved their family to Phoenix in 1963, where she remained until her passing.
Bobbi was one of the kindest souls, with a giving heart who would think of others before herself. She loved with her whole heart, never in judgment. Her faith in God was unwavering, and her strength to get through any adversity in her path, a testament to all her knew her. She loved animals, especially dogs, and had several over the years, with her favorite being her golden retriever, Darcy. Bobbi was quick witted, with a great sense of humor, and a huge circle of friends. Her joyful and happy personality gained her the nickname of “Bubbles” as a young girl. She loved seeing her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who knew her as Grandma Bubbles. They brought her such joy and happiness.
She was the mom who went to all the graduations, school events, and baseball and softball games. Every summer she drove the station wagon full of her children and their friends to the Lazy R&G Ranch for endless days of swimming and fun and Mr. Train rides. She was always there for her children when they needed her – a fierce defender. She was the epitome of unconditional love and forgiveness.
She was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. She was a John Denver and Kenny Rogers fan listening endlessly to their music. Later in life, she was the Goodwill shopper and prayer warrior at church. She was very active over the years doing Jazzercise and water aerobics. She loved her PBS Masterpiece shows.
A founding member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, over the decades she was a member of the Women’s Club, contributed her artistic talents to the Holly House Christmas Bazaar, ran Bingo nights on Fridays, taught Sunday RE classes, greeted parishioners to Sunday Mass, devotedly participated in Adoration, and worked in the rectory.
She is survived by her 6 children: Rosemary Mitchell, Jim Mitchell, Erin Dicken (Eric Dicken), Tim Mitchell, Kathleen Mitchell, and Beth Mitchell, 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and one more on the way.
As we remember Bobbi, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul profoundly loved. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire all who knew her.
