Alan was born September 24, 1950 in Phoenix, AZ to Joe and Charlene Garlington. As a young child, he could often be found playing outside in his parents backyard, stargazing and watching planes. In high school, he took up photography and shop class. He attended Arizona State University and after graduating, began his 41 year career as an electrical engineer at Motorola. He enjoyed tinkering, traveling, serving his community, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with family. Alan served over 31 years as a Scout Leader in BSA Troop 379, with over 20 years served as the Scout Master. Alan will be most remembered by his incredible generosity and humble nature.
He is survived by his wife Karen of 44 years; their 4 children Scott (Jennifer), Aimee, Andrew (Amanda), Erik (Jillian); and 8 grandchildren Ashton, Audrey, Lucy, Oliver, Zachary, Madeline, Emilia, and Zoey. He is also survived by his brother Johnny (Kim) and sister Linda (Tom).
He will be dearly missed.
