Daniel James Waller, 71, of Phenix City, AL, died October 9, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in the presence of his family. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 11:30am, one hour prior to the 12:30pm Funeral Services, Wednesday, October 16, 2019 in Lakewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 3770 Hwy. 431 North, Phenix City, AL. Reverend Norman C. Garrison and Reverend Ronny Shirley will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30pm at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.
Daniel was Born in Phenix City, AL, March 18, 1948, he was the son of the late Reverend Dan Dozier Waller and Helen Barbee Waller. He served in the US Army from 1968 through 1970. He received a National Defense Service Medal for his service during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Swift Textile Mill during the 1980s.
Daniel never had formal lessons on any instrument, yet he taught himself how to play proficiently the guitar and the mandolin just by watching others. In addition to music, he had a passion for motorcycles and cars. He enjoyed nothing more than taking a car apart and putting it back together. He spent many hours restoring vintage cars. He was particularly proud of his car, a 1951 Chevy Fleetline.
Other than his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his wife, Martha "Nita" Cornelius Waller. Survivors include; son, Danny James Waller; daughter, Shannon Tomlin (Mark); sister, Donna Waller Johnson; and two grandchildren, Dylan and Ashlyn.
