Jesus "Chuy" Rivera Jr., 78, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Amara Hospice in Edinburg. He was born to Jesus Rivera, Sr. and Maria Dolores Marin on March 30, 1940 in Edinburg, Texas. Jesus enlisted in the Air Force in 1961 and honorably served his country. He married his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Maria Viviana on May 4, 1964. Chuy's favorite pastime was barbequing for his family, painting ceramics and traveling with his wife. He had an extensive collection of mugs and had a passion for collecting military caps and Eagles. Jesus dedicated his time at the Texas Tropical Behavioral Center where he aided the challenged and encouraged independent living. He is reunited with his parents; siblings: Manuel Marin and Arturo Marin who have preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 54 years, Maria Viviana Rivera and their children: Roel Rivera, Lizeth (Lance) Hunter and Rolando (Monica) Rivera. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Rene Rivera, Raphael Rivera, Lizzy (Jonas) Vargas, Allyson Hunter, RJ Rivera, Jaime Rivera, Larissa Rivera; siblings: Maria R. Medina, Jose Luis Vasquez, Elvia V. Soto and a multitude of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 3 pm to 9 pm with a rosary recited at 7 pm at Palm Valley Funeral Home in Pharr. Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 12 pm at Palm Valley Funeral Home in Pharr. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 8788 Honor Guard at the graveside at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palm Valley Funeral Home in Pharr.
