Hector was born on May 11, 1960, to Julian Mendez and Maria Luz Mendez. He was a graduate of Pharr San Juan Alamo High School, and served his country proudly as a member of the US Air Force as a SSGT, receiving several medals and ribbons for his service. While stationed overseas, he was able to travel and visit several European countries.
Hector was emplyed by Coca Cola for many years until he began working at his most recent job HEB Parkway Division in Weslaco, Texas.
Hector was preceded in death by his father, Julian Mendez Sr, his mother, Maria Luz Mendez, and a brother, Alberto Mendez.
Hector was a real sportsman enjoying the great outdoors, fishingm hunting, and archery. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He had no children of his own; however, he treasured the time spent with his nephews and nieces. Jason Martinez, Anthony Mendez, Kelley Ballay, Raymond Ballay III, Jennifer Thomas, Isabella Jordan, Brandon Mendez, and Ashley Mendez.
Hector lived most of his life in Pharr, Texas except for the time he was in the military. H was always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, family, friends, significant other, Gloria Abad and specially siblings, Sandra Ballay (Raymond), Jaime Mendez, Susana Mendez, Marta Mendez, Monica Mendez, Julian Mendez Jr. (Shauna) and Herman Mendez.
A visitation for Hector will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr with a rosary at 7:00 pm. A catholic service will occur at 10 am on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Funeraria del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr. Buriel will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr, along Military Honors from the American Catholic Legion Post 93 of Mission, TX.
