He was born in Brady, Texas on August 31, 1930 and attended first through eighth grade in Gatesville, Texas. He received his GED and college credit for three courses while he was in the Air Force.
He was married to Lillie Marlene Hickman on March 15, 1952. Their 54-year marriage ended when She passed away in 2006. He was her primary caregiver for the last 5 years of her life.
He served three years in the Navy and was aboard a ship off the coast of Korea during the Korean war.
He served 20+ years in the Air Force and retired in 1971 at the rank of TSGT (Technical Sergeant). He was a supply sergeant responsible for supply and inventory control. He used those skills after retirement as parts manager with Tom Fairey Company, a John Deere dealer in Austin, Texas. When Tom Fairey closed, he delivered papers for the Austin American Statesman.
He was a fisherman and knew bliss standing on the banks of the Russian river in Alaska fishing for salmon.
He was survived by his children Ruth Rhoades, Willie Williams, Dedra Ramirez; grandchildren Christopher Rhoades, Katharine Rhoades, Jody Self, Robert Harris, Willie Williams III (Trey), Shawn Riedel, Sabrina Ulloa; great grandchildren Kaylen Harris, Brenden Harris, Destiney Harris, Colton Harris, Serenity Harris, Alexis Perez, Donnivan Williams, Cheyenne Eller, Abigail Riedel; great great grandchildren Isabella Harris, Levi Perez.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., December 21, 2024, at Cook-Walden Capital Parks (14501 N Interstate Hwy. 35, Pflugerville, TX)
