Steven David Kennedy died on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023. He passed peacefully while surrounded by his family. Steve was born February 1, 1958 in Paris, Kentucky to David and Cordelia Kennedy. Steve spent his early years in Kentucky living in both Paris and Lexington. His family moved to Austin in 1971. He graduated from LBJ High School in Austin in 1976. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration.
After graduating from college, Steve moved to Houston with his first wife, Diana. He worked for Texas Instruments and several oil field service companies. Steve & Diana were soon blessed with their daughter, Jennifer. After their divorce, he moved back to Austin in 1987 to accept a job with a company called PC’s Limited (now known as Dell Technologies). He was among the first 300 employees, and retired in 2009.
Steve married the love of his life, Jessica, in 1990. His eldest daughter Jennifer soon had two sisters, Kelli and Megan. Steve adored his girls and worked hard to be part of their activities. He coached youth soccer and participated in both Leander and Pflugerville High Schools’ dance booster clubs. He and his wife, Jessica, established the Lady Panther Dance Booster club after which he served as President for several years. He devotedly attended countless dance performances over the course of 20 years cheering his girls on through every leap, tap, and ‘stand routine’!
Steve enjoyed photography, history, space, and travel. He also loved playing basketball and softball in his younger years. But his true passion in life was loving his daughters and grandsons.
After transferring membership from Koenig Lane Christian Church, Steve dove head first into the life and ministries of Pflugerville First United Methodist. He was active in church leadership serving as both vice-Council and Council chair, and Worship committee chair. He also served on the Finance Committee and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC). He served as lead Usher for many years, was active in the Methodist Men’s Group and volunteered with the Food Pantry. Steve served as a Stephen Minister and also taught Sunday School to 4th – 8th graders. He enjoyed the weekly fellowship of the members of the Thursday lunch Emmaus Reunion group. Steve was the driving force in creating, managing, and staffing a Thursday night praise service known as “The Gathering”. It served a small but faithful group of worshipers for several years.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, David and Cordelia. He is survived by his wife of almost 33 years; his daughters Jennifer (Jake), Kelli and Megan; grandsons Jeremy and Jasper. He is also survived by his brother Don (Kay), nephew Brian (Jen) and nieces Shannon (Dylan) and Erin; grand-nephew Colson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
