Ruben Cristobal Soto Sr., age 88 of Austin, Texas was born February 15,1936. He transitioned to his heavenly home on November 15, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family at his daughter’s home.
On October 16, 1956, Ruben joined in holy matrimony with Amelia Gonzales. They were blessed with four children, Ruben Jr., Robert, Deborah and Yolanda.
He worked for and retired from the University of Texas at Austin, Psychology Department, where he worked as a skilled machinist making equipment and machinery for the department's experiments and studies.
Throughout his life, he worked tirelessly to afford his beloved family with many wonderful vacations and all the precious memories they brought. He blessed them with many road trips to visit various historical places of interest, monuments and National Parks throughout the United States. He was entrepreneurial, all while holding down a full-time job. He owned and operated the following businesses: a bakery - he was up before the sun rose to deliver delicious breads and pastries to companies, such as HEB, Thundercloud Subs and others; a Mexican restaurant named El Aguila. (The Eagle) - it was one of the first restaurants to serve the “Texas sized doughnut.”; a fruits and vegetables store on the corner of Barton Springs and Lamar which also sold kitchen staples, such as, milk, eggs, butter, etc.; and a cleaning service that serviced Government buildings in Austin.
He enjoyed studying the bible, camping and fishing with his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also played the saxophone beautifully. He was passionate about various sweepstakes and entered them faithfully, in hopes that he would win money to in turn donate it to churches, different organizations and family. He had a little green book detailing how he would divide his winnings among each of them.
He was a man who loved God. He laid the foundation of love, faith, hope and prayer for his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and generations to
come.
Ruben is preceded in death by his mother, Jacinta H. Gonzales, his father, Christopher Soto and his stepfather, Paulino Gonzales, his brothers, Eli Gonzales and Joe Gonzales, and his sisters, Naomi Treadway, Liz Garza and Juanita Martinez
Those left behind to honor his life and cherish his memories are his wife of 68 years, Amelia Soto; their children, Ruben Soto Jr. and wife Mary Ann of Belton, Tx, Robert C. Soto and wife Clara of Pflugerville, Tx., Deborah Soto of Taylor, Tx., and Yolanda Cree of Austin, Tx. His grandchildren, Ruben J. Soto Ill and wife Tanea of Midlothian, Tx., Roger A. Soto and wife Ashley of Hutto, Tx., Alicia Soto Barker and husband Ross of Round Rock, Tx. , Marisa Gomez and Michael Campos of Taylor, Tx., Christina Gomez of Taylor Tx, John Cree and wife Kelly of Austin, Tx, Durran Cree Probst and husband Matt of Austin, Tx. His great - grandchildren; Julian Serrato and wife Heather of Chattanooga,TN. Michael, Danielle , Leah, Skyla, Ariah, Noah, Gideon, Galilea and Levi. His Great-great grandchildren; Abigail, Lily and Luke. His sisters; Mary Mendoza, Linda Simmons, Rebecca Cortez and Connie Lopez
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024 in the chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
