Pat was born on February 22, 1929, in Birmingham, England. She came to America in 1955 to marry her beloved Joe. They were residents of the Golden Triangle area of Texas for over 43 years, moving to the Austin area in 1998. Pat worked at The White House department store in Beaumont as a salesperson, but her most famous role was at Dryden’s Department Store in Groves, Texas, as one of the top salespersons in the shoe department. Pat loved to garden (she had a green thumb), and she was passionate about the humane care of all animals. She always had at least one canine companion by her side. Pat was a member of the British Women’s Oversea Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Pat is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Dean Swanzy; siblings Bessie Haynes, Margaret Yardley, William Winwood, Lily Quinn, Leslie Winwood, Connie Winwood and Walter Winwood. She is survived by her son Shawn Swanzy and wife Judith of Leander, TX; daughter Deeba Vandiver and husband Dana of Pflugerville, TX; son Aaron Swanzy and wife Amie of Round Rock, TX; grandchildren Brandi Swanzy, Chase Swanzy, Austin Vandiver, Ian Swanzy, Patience Swanzy, Allie Vandiver, Dean Swanzy, and Dru Swanzy; and great-grandchildren Baylee Swanzy and Joseph Swanzy.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
