Pat was a lifelong Texan, beginning with her birth in Houston on September 11, 1939 to Gilbert and Loraine Swanzey. She was raised in Houston and settled in Austin following her graduation from Southwestern University in Georgetown. She was a librarian with the Austin School District and subsequently achieved her Master's in Library Science at the University of Texas-Austin. Thereafter, she and her family moved to Round Rock where she established lifelong friendships and also served as an active member of the Round Rock community.
She first was librarian at Berkman Elementary School, followed by Jollyville Elementary School, from which she retired in 2000. She later began a second career by joining the team of U.S. Congressman John Carter, where she worked for many years to serve Round Rock and surrounding communities.
Beyond her professional careers, Pat was constantly engaged with or leading creative projects, including creating stories and performing in puppet shows with the Round Rock Women's Club; cofounding Hollering Woman Arts; a southwest-inspired apparel and crafts business; conducting fashion shows for Stein Mart in Round Rock; and sewing dresses for children in Haiti.
Pat was also an avid traveler, visiting countless destinations both domestically and abroad.
As a member of the First United Methodist Church in Round Rock, Pat served in many roles over the years, including singing in the choir and supporting vacation bible school.
Those who knew and loved Pat were blessed to experience her perpetual positivity, sense of humor, generosity and grace, excitement for adventure, spontaneity and adaptability, and commitment to being a part of the lives of those she loved. Aside from friends, she cherished, and was cherished by, her loving family, and never failed to attend any of the many family activities and get-togethers over the years.
