Norma Linda Perez, age 61, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Norma was born November 27, 1959 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Heberto and Filomena Perez. Her family moved to west Texas in 1964 where they eventually settled in Brownfield, Texas. In 1978, Norma relocated to Austin to begin her studies in Nursing and began what would become her lifelong calling. For over 40 years, Norma lovingly and with much heartfelt compassion served the medical profession as a Registered Nurse. She was an ICU Nurse at St. David’s Medical Center for nearly 25 years and then went to work at University Medical Center Brackenridge. For the past several years, Norma has been a travelling nurse and most recently was assisting at the Plano Medical Center where she was assisting with the COVID pandemic.
In addition to her love for nursing, Norma was an avid outdoors person. She enjoyed hiking in the mountains, going to the beach and cheering on her beloved Texas Rangers. Norma also had a love for sugar skulls and Christmas songs. In her parents' later years, Norma lovingly cared for both of her parents. She was a friend to all and was known for her beautiful smile, great sense of humor, and her generous and kind heart. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Heberto and Filomena Perez. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Jason Perez (LeAnn); daughter, Marissa Esparza; brother, Herbert Perez (Elizabeth); sister, Rosa Benitez; grandchild, Lyla Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, Texas 78752. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with burial following at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
