Nadine had humble beginnings as the eighth child of a Texas sharecropper. She was always very proud of her country roots. Nadine found much joy in sharing stories of evening tractor rides with her father and learning all her cooking secrets from her Grandmother. Growing up in a large household taught Nadine the value of family, hard work, and generosity. She would carry these lessons through all her days and change many lives with her kindness. Ever the consummate caregiver, she nursed many of her loved ones as they aged.
Nadine was most proud of her role as a mother and grandmother, and she enjoyed a lifetime of other accomplishments. She assisted her first husband in the operation of a number of businesses, cooked huge meals for church functions, dedicated much effort to having a historical marker placed at her family cemetery, and managed to give freely of herself to all those in her sphere of influence.
She loved country music, dancing, slot machines, canasta, fishing, and laughing until she cried. She loved all kinds of animals, everything from a big bull, to two Chihuahuas and her special dog Max. She gave excellent hugs, sound advice, and all the abiding love she had to her family and friends. The void she has left behind will be felt deeply by many people.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, Ellick Gue Whitehead and Ida Gertrude (Cude) Whitehead; her first and second husbands, O.V. Higginbotham and Bennie Adams Jr.; her siblings, Carl Thomas Whitehead, Lessie (Whitehead) Dykes, Cecil F. Whitehead, Charlie Lee Whitehead, Wilma Inez (Whitehead) Baker, Lucille Marie (Whitehead) Williams, and C.T. "Pete" Whitehead.
Nadine is survived by her son, George Higginbotham and wife Susie; daughter, Vicki Hinds and husband Benny; grandchildren, Mike Higginbotham and wife Cheri, Christy Batkins and husband John, Nicole Horn and husband Matt, and Brandon Hinds; and five great-grandchildren.
