She was born on June 16, 1940 in Winamac Indiana to Hank and Marietta Roe. She graduated from Star City High school in 1958. She married her high school sweetheart Wayne Smith on June 14, 1958. They moved to Indianapolis Indiana and begin their life! They celebrated 61 years of marriage in June. Marlene‘s lifelong pursuit was to lead others to Christ by encouragement and love. She never thought bad about anyone and if anyone failed her in anyway she always said “they didn’t mean to”. If her children ever acted bad she always said “that’s not like them”. Her determination and strength are what set her apart from all others. She loved to move to a “new house” and she did it 61 times. She and Wayne even helped a woman they met at her release from prison by letting her live with them till she got back on her feet. She and Wayne worked together in Child Evangelism and other church related ministries their entire marriage.
She is pre-deceased by her father Hank Roe and her brothers Rick and Dennis Roe. Surviving in addition to her husband, Wayne Smith, is her mother, Marietta Ruby (101 yrs old) and her sisters Janice Coleman and Gina smith.
