Juanita graduated from Centralia High School, and from Draughon’s Business College of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She married the love of her life, Donald Hawley on October 27, 1956 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Wichita Kansas. This October would have been their 66th wedding anniversary.
Don and Juanita moved around a lot in their early years as a result of Don’s vocation as a Southern Baptist Minister of Education. They resided in El Segundo and Riverside, California; Fort Worth, Texas; Memphis, Tennessee; Woodbridge, Virginia; and College Park and Macon, Georgia. When Juanita retired from the United States Probation Office in 1999, Don and Juanita moved to Round Rock to be near their grandkids. The two joined Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Texas and made many friends in the Seniors’ Sunday School Class.
Juanita's first love was her family and she delighted in spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved reading, cooking and gardening. Juanita was a regular at the church library every Sunday. Holidays were a special time around the Hawley household in large part due to the cakes and pies, pumpkin and pecan, that she would bake. She was famous for her butterhorn rolls, a recipe she learned from Don’s mother. Juanita also spent many hours tending to the flowers in and around their home.
Family members who passed away before Juanita include her parents; two sisters Irene Miller (husband Leon) and Louise Roberts (husband Stanley); brothers Joe “JW” Williams (wife Lillie Marie), James “Jimmy” Williams (wife Janetta), and Gene Williams. The family includes: her husband Donald Hawley; her children Donald Hawley Jr. of Round Rock, David Hawley and wife Cynthia of Maricopa, AZ, Steven Hawley and wife Paula of Albuquerque, NM, Sandra Amason and husband Dale of Austin, TX; sister Ellen Akard and husband Charley of Lawton, OK; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A visitation for Juanita will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM on the same day. Rev. Dan N. Gardner from Hyde Park Baptist Church will be officiating the service. Interment will occur Wednesday, September 14, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hyde Park Baptist Church library.
