Johnny Lopez Perez, 79, passed on Sunday, October 22,2023, leaving his earthly home of 47 years in Northeast Austin and headed into his heavenly home. He was cared for by his wife and family during the progression of Alzheimer’s and Dementia during the past nine years.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Mary Alice (Davila) Perez; his children, Gloria Castillo & husband Yayo Castillo, Lisa Perez Montoya & Joshua Montoya Sr., John Perez Jr. & Sylvia Perez, Brenda Perez Limon & husband Manuel Limon, Charisa Perez Mitchell & husband Mike Mitchell; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Theresa Sanchez, Mary Alice Trevino, Gloria Alonzo, Annie Medina, Virginia Hornsby and a host of family and longtime friends.
Preceding him in death were his brothers, Amado Perez Jr. and Louis Perez Sr.
Johnny was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and is the son of the late Amado Sr. and Cecelia Perez.
During his work years, he was most proud of his 20 years as a Butcher at Night Hawk in Austin, Tx. Johnny was a hard-working man and went on to a second career as a Groundskeeper Supervisor for the Austin Independent School District for 20 years. He never missed work and took great pride in providing for his family.
In 2001 he was diagnosed with colon cancer and received treatment. Eventually regaining his health back and remained in remission. All though he loved his sweets, he stayed healthy and fit by taking long walks throughout Northeast Austin.
He had a passion for dancing, bar-b-quing and fishing on the weekends. He frequently took his wife and family to Las Vegas and various casino getaways. He was fun-loving and quick with a joke. He also enjoyed watching a good game of any Texas sports team.
He will be truly missed and we will always have great memories that will go on and we will cherish. His smile and laughs are permanent in our hearts.
A visitation for Johnny will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A rosary service will occur Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. A funeral service will occur Friday, November 3, 2023, 10:00 a.m., 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A committal service will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
