James Stockton

James Evan Stockton died at the age of 89 on January 7, 2021 at a care facility in Kerrville, Texas after a long battle with dementia. James was born in Goliad, Texas on February 28, 1931 to Lorette Wilson Stockton and Seth Evan Stockton. James was an only child but had many cousins in both the Stockton and Wilson families.

James graduated from Austin High School in 1948, and from the University of Texas in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. After graduating from UT, he was employed by the Defense Research Lab of the University of Texas, later named Applied Research Lab. He received the President’s Award for Excellence in 1991 from UT President Dr. William H. Cunningham. He retired from Applied Research Lab in August 1997 after 37 years of service. James was a member of the Acoustical Society of America, staying active after his retirement from UT.

James served in the U.S. Army for the Korean Conflict. After the conflict, he served in the Army Reserve and then the National Guard, achieving the rank of Colonel. He was a pilot and logged many flight hours before retiring from the Guard.

James was married to the love of his life, Judith Ann West on October 13, 1951. After 64 years together, his beloved wife Judy died on June 26, 2016. They are survived by daughter Barbara Stockton Cordova and husband Antonio Cordova of Kerrville, son David Evan Stockton and wife Sheila Lopez Stockton of Lockhart, and his beloved grandsons and their spouses Stephen Evan Cordova and Molly of New Braunfels and Marcos Edward Cordova and Kirsti O’Brien of Burnet.

James will be interred with military honors at a private graveside service on Thursday January 14, 2021 at Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery.
