Mrs. Dorothy E. Pettit, daughter of the late James and Mary Elliott was born April 12, 1930 in Dyer, Tennessee. She grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. Mrs. Pettit attended Peabody Demonstration High School, and for a time attended the University of Tennessee Junior College in Martin, Tennessee.
Mrs. Pettit was united in holy matrimony to Ronald Alan Pettit, a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, on September 6, 1952. This union was blessed with two children. Ronald preceded her in death on February 5, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Miriam Elliott.
Mrs. Pettit was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for a time, participated in the Tender Loving Care group, and the Dorcas Bible study group. She worked for 23 years as an accountant for the University Co-op Bookstore. As a result of her kind and loving heart, she was cherished by many. She quietly departed this life Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House in Austin, Texas.
Her beautiful life will forever influence the lives of her children: David Pettit of Pflugerville, Texas and Karen Reyna of Pflugerville, Texas; daughter-in-law Robin Pettit and son-in-law Michael Reyna; her sister Rebekah Warren of Waverly, Tennessee; her grandchildren: Brian Pettit of College Station, Texas, Sean Reyna of Austin, Texas, Ryan Reyna of Alexandria, Virginia, and Christina Welfel of Bossier City, Louisiana; and her great-grandchildren: Aubrey Pettit, Therese Welfel, Eric Pettit, Victoria Welfel, Sydney Reyna, Charlotte Reyna, Lillian Welfel, Alexander Welfel, Mae Reyna, and Quinn Reyna to whom she was lovingly known as “GG.”
