Don Ray McMurry, son of Ray and Inez McMurry, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on February 25, 1937, raised in Taylor, Texas and Graduated from Taylor High School.
He served four years in the U.S. Navy, attended East Texas State College, and moved to Amarillo, Texas. He was employed by the Amarillo Hardware Company as a sales representative for sixteen years and spent a lot of weekends working at his grandfather’s farm and ranch in Lakeview, Texas in the Southeastern Texas Panhandle.
He moved there full time in 1979 and became associated with the U.S. Postal Service in Lakeview, Texas and Memphis, Tennessee. He served as a Rural Carrier until 2002. Then, he moved to Austin, Texas in 2004 and became reacquainted with several of his High School classmates and really enjoyed the renewed friendship, especially the quarterly dinners.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Ray and Inez McMurry, a sister; Maxine. Survivors are one sister; Marian Richards, one niece; Rene Parker (Jacob Parker), one nephew; David Richards (Young), 3 Great nephews, 1 Great niece.
Graveside services were held at Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth, Texas on Monday, October 16, 2017. Make donations to charities of choice.
