Arthur Willard “Pete” Johnson departed this earthly life quietly surrounded by loved ones in his home on Thursday May 28th. Arthur was born March 24, 1944 in Atlanta, Texas to Sedalia and Sandy Johnson. He spent his early years with his maternal grandparents in Atlanta and later moved to Austin to join his parents in 1956. It is at this time that he professed a hope in Christ and united with David Chapel Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of Pastor Dawson. Arthur attended LL Campbell, Kealing and Anderson High school where he graduated in 1963. Arthur loved the class of 1963 and remained active with class functions until his health prevented him from doing so. Arthur was also active at David Chapel as an usher for many years. He took his duties as an usher very seriously and could be found studying his usher’s manual long into the night.
Arthur worked with his father for many years in the family business and later drove 18 wheelers cross country. After his career as a truck driver, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Austin, retiring in 1997 after 25 years of service.
Pete loved motorcycles. He was an avid rider and belonged to several motorcycle clubs through most of his life, The Souls of Motion being the one that brought him the most joy.
Arthur was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Sedalia, and a sister who died in infancy. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Daisy; his father, Sandy Johnson; three siblings: LaRoy Johnson, Sr.(Lois), James R. Johnson (Loretta ‘Jewel’) and Dorothy N. Green; four children: Lester Johnson, Renay Bogan, Cassandra Johnson and Nikkishea McCullough; three grandchildren: Martae’Yah Walker, Erica Graham and Jasmine Bogan, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
