Theresa Mary Hickson Long

Peacefully at the Port Hope Extendicare on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the age of 92. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Professor Douglas Long and daughter Karen Stocker. Devoted Mother of Fred Long and his wife Joan. Loving grandmother of Gary Long, Heather Nusink (Jon), Max Stocker (Sarah) and Laura Bright (Rob). Proud great-grandmother of Lauren, Matthew, Katherine and Fiona. She is survived by her son-in-law, Stan Stocker as well as her brother-in-law, Francis W. Long. Treasured sister to Helen Coughlin, Jean Crowley, Mary Simmons, Joseph Hickson (Mary Rose), Fr. Clair Hickson, Dr. Paul Hickson (Caroline), Leonard Hickson and Anne McGarrity. Theresa was the adored and much loved “Aunt Theresa” to a very special group of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings Margaret O’Connor, John Hickson, Clayton Hickson, Phyllis Nantau and Isabelle Foster. Brother and sister in laws who have predeceased her, include Patrick McGarrity, Paul Simmons, Daniel O’Connor, Peggy Hickson, Bernard Coughlin, Harold Foster, Kiel Nantau, Carl Crowley, Barbara Hickson and Helen Hickson. She will be remembered as a genuinely caring individual who always took time to engage others in conversation, truly interested in their well being. Her sense of humour and enjoyment of a good laugh was there until the end, if only with a smile. Theresa’s life was a gift to all who knew her. Theresa’s family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate team of health care professionals at Port Hope Extendicare, who provided our mother with so much love and dignity of life these past five years. Sincere appreciation to the staff who made her journey these last few months a little easier to bear. We feel truly blessed. Visitation at the COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Her life will be celebrated in a funeral mass at ST. ANNE’S CHURCH, 859 Barnardo Avenue, Peterborough at 12 noon on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Peterborough.
