Stephen (Pista) was born July 31, 1913 in Sárosoroszi, Hungary to his parents Jenő Fekete and Jolán Róth Fekete. Soon after celebrating his 98th birthday, his wonderful heart stopped and he passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2011 in his own bed at Princess Gardens, in Peterborough, with his son, John, and daughter-in-law, Victoria, by his side. Loving father of John (Victoria) and Gabe (Coleen) and Gabe’s former wife Marlene Hyder. Devoted grandpa to Julie (former husband Kevin) Shaw, Pamela (Brian) Slowleigh and Dennis (Tracy). Proud great-pa of Meaghan, Dylon, Justin, Amanda, Marrisa, and Jocelynn. He is also survived by his nephews, Ivan Jozefovics and Misi Sipos in Hungary, and cousins Zsuzsi Ackerman in the U.S, Agi Speiser in Slovakia, and Moshe Rotem in Israel. Predeceased in 2004 by Lili, his beloved wife of 66 years. In keeping with Stephen’s wishes, cremation has taken place, with inurnment at Little Lake Cemetery in the columbarium. Stephen’s gentle decency, cheerful disposition, and unforgettable being reached out to family and friends on three continents; to know him was to love him, and he will be sorely missed. Heartfelt thanks go out from the family to the staff of Princess Gardens for 12 years of tender loving care. Memorial ceremonies will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Princess Gardens for family, friends, staff and residents. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stephen’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be greatly appreciated.
