Passed away quietly on March 6th, 2015, in her 92nd year at PRHC, Peterborough. Predeceased by her doting husband Donald Fleming, whom she met in Kingston, Ontario where he attended University. Loving mother to James Fleming (Carol Storey) and Pamela McKendrick (Stuart). She is dearly cherished by all her grandchildren, Douglas (Celina) and great grandson Jake, Sonja, Emily, Laura (Fernando) and Brian.
Margaret and Donald lived life to the fullest; they travelled the world extensively in their retirement, enjoyed sailing in the summer and skiing in the winter. Between all their activities they were avid bridge players, enjoying dinners and games with dear friends.
Education was highly valued by Margaret. At the age of 75 she completed a joint degree in Women’s Studies and Canadian Studies at Trent University. She was also very fond of art and literature, and was a founding member of the Roxboro North Shore Library Association in Montreal and had an instrumental role in establishing The Art Gallery of Peterborough. She was an active member of The Women’s Art Association, Engineers Wives Association, IODE, and University Women’s club in Peterborough.
This love of learning and the arts was shared with her children and grandchildren. She was dedicated to inspiring curiosity by organizing many family excursions to explore culture in its many forms. Margaret was deeply devoted to her family and was happiest seeing her grandchildren growing together. She hosted many family gatherings and trips to their cottage on Chandos Lake.
The family wants to thank Dr. Beamish for his compassionate care, Sherri and Mary for all their kindness and support, and Ewa, who cared for Margaret during her final days at PRHC.
A service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church on Wednesday March 11th at 1:30 pm with a reception to follow. If desired, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trent University or to The Art Gallery of Peterborough. Online condolences may be made at www.comstockfuneralhome.com.
