It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gunter Preusse on Sunday November 3, 2024 in his 88th year. A beloved husband, father and Opa, Gunter will be remembered for his steadfast nature and his dedication to family and friends.
Born on September 26, 1936 in Wispitz, Germany, Gunter grew up as the eldest son of Franz and Martha Preusse, along with his brother Herbert. Over the years, he developed a love of cars, motorcycle racing, and motorsports, particularly Formula One racing. One of his proudest moments as a young man was when he bought his first sports car, a 1962 Karmann Ghia.
On February 29, 1964, Gunter married the love of his life, Elvira Gerda Schmidt. Together they immigrated to Canada in 1965, settling first in Scarborough and eventually retiring in Peterborough. The two shared a lengthy marriage of 60 years and made many wonderful memories together.
A proud engineer, Gunter devoted his career to working with large industrial machinery and products. He applied the same precision to everything in life, whether that was building the shed in his backyard to meticulously laying down the wiring for his Christmas Village. Gunter was not a man of steel but rather a man of stainless steel.
Gunter will be sadly missed by and is survived by his wife Elvira and his brother Herbert (wife Agnes), daughter Gaby (husband Derek), granddaughter Sasha, and his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 23rd from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre in Peterborough, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre https://prhcfoundation.ca/
