Evelyn passed away peacefully with her loving daughter at her side at Lakefield Extendicare on August 19, 2017 in her 100th year. Beloved wife of the late Charles (predeceased in 2013) to whom she was married for almost 75 years. Cherished mother of Michael (predeceased in 1992) and Marilyn Finch and her husband Dennis. Nan will be fondly remembered by her grandsons: Shane Lee, Ryan Lee (late Nicole), Lee Finch (Heather) and Brent Finch (Aida) and her dear great grandchildren Dylan, Conner, Amber, Calista, Cameron, Ethan, Spenser and Michaela Lee and Quinn and Jayden Finch. Evelyn was predeceased by her siblings William, Helen, James, Elizabeth and Douglas Rubery. Lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews in England and the U. S. Evelyn worked at the Austin Motor Company in Birmingham, England and when the Second World War broke out worked for the war effort at an airplane factory. After moving to Canada in 1953 most of her life was spent in Peterborough where she became a long time member of Kawartha Golf and Country Club. When life took her and Charles to the nursing home, she became active in the Family Council serving as President at the age of 98 and most recently helped to raise money selling sundries at the Family Council Tuck Shop. Evelyn made many friends over her five year stay at Extendicare and her helping hands and smiling face will be missed by all. A special thank you to all her “care givers” at Extendicare. She often referred to the facility as “home” and you became part of her family. The family will receive friends at the COMSTOCK-KAYE LIFE CELEBRATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street on Thursday, August 31, 2017 for a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Following the service, all are invited to a reception at the Comstock-Kaye facility. If so desired, donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
