Peacefully, passed away at Hospice Peterborough, on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Lloyd Samuel Prophet. Daughter of the late Lawrence Gibson (Lillian Routly), Loving mother of Rick Prophet (Sheila), Jane Wilson (Tim) and Nancy Carter (late Scott). Proud Gramma of Danielle Prophet, Michael Prophet (Isa), Matthew Wilson (Sandra), Eric Wilson (Amanda), Jennifer Carter and Courtney Carter; and Great Gramma of Saulwyn Prophet and Oliver Wilson. Dear sister of the late Beverley Gibson, the late Jack Gibson (Carol), and Anne Sargent (Ron), sister-in-law to the late Donald Prophet (Grace). Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mae was proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a fabulous seamstress who made her own wedding dress and together with her best friend Phyllis made a dress every week to have something new to wear to the local dances. She was known for sewing beautiful butcher aprons for the St. James Tea and her many friends and family. Mae had a personal sense of style stemming from her days as a buyer for the ladies’ department at Collis’s clothing store. She could pick something appropriate for you out of a sea of clothing that would make you look and feel great. Mae was a voracious reader, canasta lover and crossword puzzler. She was the luckiest person at the casino winning many a slot jackpot! A great cook, she enjoyed making Sunday roast beef dinners and the family enjoyed her baking treats of peanut butter cookies, apple pies and banana cakes. Mae was happiest surrounded by her family.
Mae’s family is grateful to all those who helped their Mom over the past months, particularly the love and compassion from Marilyn and her family, Dennis, Shelley, Evan and Quinn. A special thank you to Dr. Lem and Sheila for their constant care, Olivia whose stories made Moms day, Walt for many years of excellent lawn care and garage chats, the personal support workers who helped with the day to day, Glen whose paramedical visits comforted Mom, the palliative care team of Doctors Blake, Matheson and Whiting and the most excellent care of the nurses, staff and volunteers of Hospice Peterborough who made Mom's passing a blessing.
Mae’s family will receive guests on Thursday, June 22nd from 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. followed by a memorial service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. In memory of Mae, donations to St. James United Church or Hospice Peterborough would be greatly appreciated.
