Dodi died on Wednesday July 6, 2011 at Princess Gardens in Peterborough, Ontario after a long illness, in her 92nd year. Dodi was predeceased by her beloved husband Jimmy (James Gairdner Watt) in 2000. She will be dearly missed by her children Terry (Lee) of Meaford, Ontario; Anne (Gary Gentles) of Atlanta, Georgia; Marcia Watt and Fred Wood (Suzanne Hooke) all of Peterborough; grandsons: Sandy Gentles (Laura) of Bethesda, Maryland; Scott Gentles (Mark Shannon) of Atlanta, Georgia; Andrew Gentles of New York City; Alex, James and Charlie Hooke-Wood; great grandchildren: James and Kate Gentles. Special Godmother to Susan Wood.
Dodi, the only child of Jessie Beatrice (nee Milnes) and William Henry Woolnough, grew up in Toronto, attended the Bishop Strachan School (1938) and the University of Toronto (1941), was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority (1941) and graduated with an honours BA in English. She enjoyed her summers at Glen Bernard Camp in Sundridge both as a camper and later as a counsellor. After marrying on December 5, 1942, Dodi and Jimmy spent the war years travelling within the Navy to such places as Halifax, Newfoundland and Boston where Jimmy sometimes worked as a physician onboard a Corvette patrolling the waters along eastern Canada. They settled back in Toronto, raising their children on Inglewood Drive and spending their summers at their beloved cottage at the Lake of Bays. Dodi was active with the IODE, and an enthusiastic volunteer with YouthLink, formerly the Big Sisters of Metropolitan Toronto as well as the Big Sister’s Thrift Shop and Christ Church Deer Park . She and Jimmy enjoyed Scottish dancing and curling along with other activities.
Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at ST. JOHN’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 99 Brock Street, Peterborough. Cremation to follow.
