Joann Marie Muir, 76, of Perrysburg, OH died at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on May 8, 2012 of complications of Parkinson’s disease. Joann was born to Paul and Helen Rose (Thomas) Yost on July 14, 1935. She attended Cathedral grade school and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1953. She married John W. Muir on June 22, 1957, and he survives. Joann was employed at Owen Illinois, but left when she began her family. She re-entered the workforce as an Avon Representative after her children had grown up. She later served in the Religion Department of the former McCauley High School until she was employed at St. Charles Hospital as an ER secretary that she claimed was the job she dearly loved, but had to leave because of Parkinson’s disease. She later worked with Dr. Richard Koop at Eye Associates until Parkinson’s disease kept her from performing her duties. Joann served five years as Business Agent for her condo association. Joann was active in Overeaters Anonymous for over 30 years, serving as Region chairman as well as many other service positions. She loved flower gardening and her backyard was once declared to be the most beautiful backyard in Oregon. She enjoyed cruises and visiting her grandchildren in North Carolina. Joann also loved to entertain and had many friend and family occasions at her home, the more people the more she liked it. Joann was active in Interact Retreats. She was also a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and Toledo Swiss Ladies Society.
She is survived by her children, Gregory J. and Robert J. of Toledo, Donald J. of Marietta, OH, Judith L. of Portland, OR and Patricia M. (David) Weirich of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, John Gregory and Ashley Marie Muir of Toledo, OH and Heather Marie and Joshua David Weirich of Matthews, NC sisters, Carol Jean (Phil) Smith of Mason, OH, Kathleen M. (Daniel) of Leesburg, FL; brothers, Thomas P. (Sharon) Yost and James E. (Sandy) Yost of Rossford, OH, and Fr. Richard Yost, OSFS of Royal Oak, MI.
Friends will be received from 2 – 8:30 P.M. on Friday in the Witzler Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133) where a Prayer and Remembrance Service will be at 6:30 P.M.. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 550 Clark St. in Toledo with Fr. Richard Yost officiating with burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
