He was born February 20, 1981 in Gary, Indiana to Jerry and Mattie (Smith) Scott. Matthew married Emily White on July 25, 2009, she survives.
He is also survived by his parents; sister, Jerey (Keon) McKinney; his two grandmothers, Bernice (James) Beasley and Ruth Lewis Smith; mother-in-law, Nancy White; father-in-law, Bob (Deitra) White; sisters-in-law, Rachel White and Sarah (Michael) Withers; two nieces, Kendall McKinney and Brianna Rosbun; nephew, Damian White; six great nieces and nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Matthew was a graduate of Galesburg High School and a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL.
Over the years he had a few different work paths and in recent years he found his niche as a forklift operator. He had a great work ethic, rarely missing work and always early.
Matthew was an avid sports enthusiast. As a youth he swam for the Galesburg YMCA and also swimming on the high school swim team. He was a member of the highly successful Galesburg Ghosts Street hockey team. In addition, he enjoyed basketball and table tennis. His sports interests moved to watching sporting events on television and social media, and if you knew Matt, he always had a commentary.
His family will remember him as a gentle giant of a man with a heart of gold. His family and friendships meant the world to him, he never knew a stranger and he loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed music, great food and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his hearty, infectious laugh and his gentle and kind spirit.
The family is so grateful for all of the expressions of kindness, love and especially your prayers. Very special thanks to the ministers and our spiritual family of the Israel of God’s church.
