Marvin was born on January 24, 1957, in Peoria, IL to the proud parents of Oldfield Sr. and Dolly D. Allen. Marvin accepted Christ at an early age. He began his Christian journey at Bethel United Methodist Church as an altar boy and participated in Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF). Marvin attended Peoria Central High School and continued his education at Illinois Central College (ICC) where he completed a 4-year apprenticeship as an electrician. Marvin married Frances Thompson in 1998, together they blended their family and continued raising their children, Marvin Jr., Crystal, Shannon, and Falynn.
Marvin had a strong work ethic. He was employed at Caterpillar in Mapleton and retired after 43 years on March 1, 2020. Marvin loved fishing with his grandson Ken Jr. and brothers. He also enjoyed hunting and attending Indie car races every year with his brothers. Marvin loved helping others and took pride in his family. Marvin spent every day doing something helpful and productive.
Marvin absolutely loved spending time with his family.
Marvin leaves to cherish his most precious memories, his loving wife Frances Allen and his pride and joy children Marvin R. Allen, Jr., of Morton, IL. Crystal (Frank) Roddy, Shannon (Kenneth Wilson) Allen of Peoria IL, and Falynn A. Thompson of Toledo, OH. Seven brothers, Oldfield Jr., Charles H. (Kayia), Lance (Glenda), Alvin Andre (Sharon), Sr., Wendell (Renada), Sr., all of Peoria IL, and Harvey T. Allen of St. Louis, MO. Three sisters Lucille Dowton, Kathryn (Rev Arthur) Dyes, and Ivaonn L. Allen, all of Peoria IL. Marvin had eight loving grandchildren Nia, Devin, Cole, Kia, Tiara, Kenneth Jr., Issac, and Kennon. Marvin also had nine great grandchildren Ky’Leigh, Krystal, Kyrie, Aniyah, Alivia, Khi, Eva, Ervin Jr., and Amaris; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, and friends.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Marilyn D. Allen and one nephew Christopher L. Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Pastor Joseph Cherry will officiate. Burial to follow in Parkview Cemetery.
