She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Doris Smith.
Surviving are Barbara Powers, her friend of 70 years; her nieces Kelly Phillips and Shannon Muldowney; her siblings Suzanne, Sally, and John; and her beloved dog, Cameo.
Karen earned a Bachelor's degree from Drake University and a Master's from Bradley. She enjoyed a 30-year career in education and retired from Pekin High School.
Karen loved to travel and was an avid reader.
Thanks to all the friends who supported Karen during her illness—especially Diane Brecher, Jan Frazier, Diane Grimes, and Luann Martin.
Services will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 18, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, 2021 N. University St., Peoria with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
