He was born Sep. 3, 1921 in Decatur to John and Ingrid (Bowden) Barner. He married Judith Horn on June 19, 1948 in Mt. Pulaski. She passed away Feb. 9, 2005 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Bill, Dick, and Joe Barner.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue (Eugene) Walker of Dunlap, two granddaughters: Kimberly Walker of Plainfield, and Tracy Walker of Peoria.
John was a WWII Veteran serving in the Coast Guard. He was a manager for Transamerica Insurance Company retiring in 1980. He was a lifetime member of the Decatur VFW Post 99, and was a member of the Central Christian Church in Decatur.
Funeral services will be Monday May 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be in Mt. Pulaski Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Monday.
