She was born November 4, 1926 in Pontiac, Illinois. Daughter of William and Marguerite (Strehlow) McMaster, she married J. Hunter Bettinghaus on March 31, 1951. He passed away September 16, 1988.
JoAnn was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, David McMaster, Rudolph McMaster and William McMaster II.
She is survived by her children, M. Abbie (Glenn) Matson of Edelstein and David (Louise) Bettinghaus of Geneva, Illinois; four grandchildren, Elise Matson of Chicago, Carl Andy (Jamie) Matson of Gillette, Wyoming, Katherine (Rob) Alderfer of Elburn, Illinois and Jacob Bettinghaus of Geneva, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, McKenna and Maddox Matson of Gillette, Wyoming.
She was a 60 year member of the IVY Club and served on the Race Committee with her husband, Hunter. JoAnn served on the Board of Directors for the South Side Bank for nine years, She volunteered her time with the Methodist Service League. JoAnn had a gift for knitting and painting that reached all members of the family as well as charitable organizations. She was known for her vibrant spirit and love of life.
She found joy at her lake house at Wee-Ma-Tuk, where countless memories were made with family and friends
As per JoAnn's request, a private graveside service will be held. Pastor Barry Long will officiate.
